Do I need to know anything about computers first?
You need to switch the device on, join the internet, and open an app with a little help. We teach the rest during the first sessions. If even that feels uncertain, the orientation call is the place to say so, and we may suggest a one-to-one hour instead of a group.
Will I be asked to buy a new phone?
No. We work with the smartphone, tablet, or laptop you already have, provided it is roughly six years old or newer. If the screen is small, we enlarge the text. A new device is never a condition of joining.
What if I am slower than others in the group?
The group waits for the slowest hand in the room. That rule is written into how we teach. If a group still feels brisk after two sessions, we can move you to one-to-one hours at S$85.
Is the orientation call really free?
Yes. Twenty minutes, no fee, and no follow-up sequence. You leave with one suggestion, one alternative, or a clear view that a programme would not help. Payment starts only after the first paid session you attend.
How large are the groups?
Online and in-person groups are six people at most. Family pair sessions are two people: one older adult and one relative. One-to-one hours are private.
What does a programme cost?
A small-group online session of 90 minutes is S$38. A six-week programme is S$190. One-to-one tutoring is S$85 an hour. In-person groups at the Orchard room are S$45 for 90 minutes. A family pair session of two hours is S$110. Shorter programmes are charged at S$38 a session.
When do I pay, and how do cancellations work?
You pay after the first session of a programme. We do not ask for a written contract. Cancel or move a session with 24 hours’ notice and there is no charge. Later than that, the session is payable because the seat cannot be offered on.
Do you record the class?
When we record, the file is available for 30 days and includes captions. You may leave your camera off. We do not publish recordings. A large-print recap is sent after every session whether or not a recording exists.
Will you ask for SingPass, passwords, or remote access?
No. We do not take passwords, banking details, or SingPass. We do not control your screen from our side. If a shared view would help, you start it and you can stop it. Extra apps are installed only when a named programme needs one and you agree.
Are classes in English?
Classes are in English. We speak slowly and write the same words on the recap. If English is tiring, say so on the orientation call. We will tell you honestly whether the group will be comfortable.
Can a relative join?
A relative may sit with you at home. For a shared lesson designed for two people, book the family pair session (two hours, S$110). We still want the older adult to tap the screen. The relative’s job is to practise helping without taking over.
Where is the Orchard room, and do I have to go there?
The room is at 230 Orchard Road, #09-05, Faber House, Singapore 238854. Most programmes run online on Singapore time. In-person groups are optional and cost S$45 for 90 minutes. Sunday is closed. Weekday hours are 09:30–18:00; Saturday 10:00–14:00.
Do you give medical, legal, or government advice?
No. We teach how to read and draft ordinary text, and how to check what a tool claims. Appointments, diagnoses, legal steps, and official accounts stay with the clinic, the adviser, or the agency that issued them.
What happens if I miss a week?
The first ten minutes of the next session are a recap. You also have the large-print page and, when we record, a 30-day file. We do not ask for an apology. If several weeks are missed, we will discuss whether to pause and restart with a later group.
